In no particular order: John Williams, James Newton Howard, Cliff Martinez, Alan Silvestri, Hans Zimmer, Alberto Iglesias, Thomas Newman, John Powell (John is the best!!!), Nathan Johnson…
I also like Ravel, Mozart, Mahler, Steve Reich and Pat Metheny.
I primarily use Cubase, Pro Tools and Sibelius. As far as soft synths, samplers and soundware, I use pretty much everything everyone else is using (in other words, nothing special).
Off the top of my head, in no particular order:
Adventure: The Empire Strikes Back
Thriller: The Dark Knight, The Girl With The DragonTattoo (original Swedish version)
Drama: Babel (a wonderful, wonderful piece, and a fantastic story about redemption), The Decalogue, Solaris (yes, the Soderbergh version!), Closer, Goodfellas, Cinema Paradisio, Interview With A Vampire
Romantic Comedy: Love Actually, Cashback
Comedy: Annie Hall, Dikkenek, Snatch
Sci-Fi: Alien, Blade Runner, Twelve Monkeys
Action: The Bourne Ultimatum, Total Recall!
Horror / Supernatural: Let The Right One In
Animation: Wall-E, anything by Tex Avery, Monsters, Inc
I guess my overall favorite would be Brazil. I have a incredibly hard time watching it, but it’s absolutely brilliant!
I LOVE good shows: Californication, Damages, Breaking Bad, Arrest Development, True Blood, The X Files, SVU, etc.
Billye Donya has been responsible for making me look good (and that’s no small feat). Check her stuff at www.billyedonya.com
In no particular order:
Pink Floyd, The Dark Side of the Moon; Anouar Brahem, Thimar; Joe Henderson, So Near, So Far; Andrei Gavrilov / Maurice Ravel, Concerto for the Left Hand/Gaspard de la Nuit, … and many, many more.
That would be U2’s Achtung Baby
, still a favorite of mine to this day.
It’s nice to keep up with that medium. I believe games are the forefront of creativity and a real pleasure for me. Although I can’t play everything that appeals to me (there’s simply not enough time in a day!), I’m really enjoying League of Legends, Battlefield 1, Mafia 3, AC: Syndicate, Alien: Isolation and Far Cry Primal. I often go back to playing Batman: Arkham City, which represents some of the best game music and audio integration that I’ve heard.
